If we try to fix the axis 0°, 90°, 180° & 270° and then study the direction of early Kun & early Li, we would find out the corresponding later Kan & Zhen are 36° and 48° respectively.
By the below calculation, we would in turn figure out the early Zhen in later Gen has 3 degrees in extra. Please also refer to the Figure 2 to give you a clear picture.
Table 3. Calculation of Later Kan, Zhen & Gen Palace by using the method of fixing 0°, 90°, 180° & 270° under the theory of 2 cycles and 8 periods.
Early Trigram | Value of Total Yao | Later Trigram Palace | Degree & Interval (2 cycles & 8 periods) Abnormal Distribution | Degree & Interval (3 cycles & 9 periods)Normal Distribution of 8 directions | Difference |
Kun | 6x3 = 18 | Kan | 18 x 2° = 36° (342° to 18°) | 45° (337.5° to 22.5°) | -9° |
Li | 9+6+9 = 24 | Zhen | 24 x 2° = 48° (66° to 114°) | 45° (67.5° to 112.5°) | +3° |
Then refer to Figure 2 & Number in red color is based on the above calculation
Zhen | Gen | 66° − 18° = 48° | 45° (22.5° to 67.5°) | +3° |
Extending our arguments of 2 cycles and 8 periods, we could have the following result.
Table 4. Calculation of all later trigrams palace by using the fixing method according to the principle of 2 cycles and 8 periods.
Early Trigram | Value of Total Yao | Later Trigram Palace | Degree (2 cycles & 8 periods) | Difference and Phenomenon |
Kun | 6x3 = 18 | Kan | 18 x 2° = 36° (342° to 18°)
Zhen | 9+6+6 = 21 | Gen | 21 x 2° = 42° Value from Yao | -6 Gap |
66° - 18° = 48° Value from subtraction (For method, refer to Table 3)
Li | 9+6+9 = 24 | Zhen | 24 x 2° = 48° (66° to 144°)
Dui | 9+9+6 = 24 | Xun | 24 x 2° = 48° Value from Yao | +9 Overlapping |
153° - 114° = 39° Value from subtraction(For method, refer to Table 3)
Qian | 9x3 = 27 | Li | 27 x 2° = 54° (153° to 207°)
Xun | 6+9+9 = 24 | Kun | 24 x 2° = 48° Value from Yao | -6 Gap |
249° - 207° = 42° Value from subtraction (For method, refer to Table 3)
Kan | 6+9+6 = 21 | Dui | 21 x 2° = 42° (249° to 291°)
Gen | 9+6+6 = 21 | Qian | 21 x 2° = 42° Value from Yao | +9 Overlapping |
342° - 291° = 51° Value from subtraction (For method, refer to Table 3) |
Under the 2 cycles and 8 periods, the degree of each later trigram palace-Gen, Xun, Kun and Qian could be calculated by two means:
- Based on the Yang line = 9 and Yin line = 6, in order to generate the circle degree.
- Based on the degrees of the later trigram palace-Kan, Zhen, Li and Dui, in order to make subtraction from one of the other around the circle.
From the table, we could get an interesting phenomenon that if all of the early trigrams were transformed into their corresponding degrees; some of the directions would shows gaps with each other while some would be overlapped. Figure 3 displays a clear picture for this ridicules phenomenon.
Moreover, still by using the fixing method, each direction or later trigram palace would get a new central line deviated from the original one with certain degree in clockwise direction. Figure 4 shows one of the examples.
I am curious that Master Jiang Dahong (蔣大鴻) would promote this kind of principle to make fool of everyone?
